Abstract

This research addresses the roles of AI ethics and media literacy (ML) in enhancing responsible digital citizenship (RDC). This study is limited to the Universities in the higher education sector in Jordan. Article report both direct and indirect effects and moderation was performed by ML. The sampling technique that was used in this study was purposive sampling. The study was conducted with 408 respondents, namely active digital learning and online communication university students and academic staff. Data analysis was done with the technique of structural equation modeling (SEM) to show the direct and indirect effects in the research model. The research results show that there is a direct and positive impact of AI ethics and ML on RDC. Additionally, there is a positive indirect effect of AI ethics on RDC via ML. To sum up, this research confirms the results of the earlier studies, which suggested direct and indirect implications in relation to responsible digital behavior in the digital environments. To foster ethical online engagement, critical information appraisal, and responsible technology use, AI ethics and media literacy are crucial. All of this has a profound impact on sustainable digital engagement and wellbeing. The novelty of this research is its research object. The higher education sector in Jordan was chosen as the focus for the study, as it is likely to be impacted by RDCs in the context of AI ethics and ML. RDC is very important to establish ethical, knowledgeable and sustainable digital societies.
